The UNCG Soccer Stadium is a modern soccer-only facility located in the heart of campus. Both the men’s and women’s teams celebrated their 20th season in the state-of-the-art facility in 2010.
UNCG played on the same site, then known as Campus Field, through the 1990 season. On Dec. 6, 1990, ground was broken on the $3.6 million stadium that fans see today. Prior to the renovation, the UNCG men’s soccer team was as dominant on its home field as it is today. The site of the UNCG Soccer Stadium has served as the home field for the Spartans for more than 25 seasons. Both teams have won more than 70 percent of their matches on the home pitch.
The stadium still rivals any collegiate soccer facility in the nation. Among its several outstanding features:
Besides providing UNCG’s teams with a first-class home, the stadium has also attracted a number of outside events to the campus. UNCG hosted the semifinal and final rounds of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship in 1997 and 1998, focusing nationwide attention on Greensboro and the university. A then-championship record of 20,058 fans attended in 1998, including a stadium single-event record 10,583 for the final. The championship was nationally televised by ESPN.
The stadium served as a site for the U.S. Youth Soccer Association regional championship during the summer of 1997. The Olympic champion women’s national soccer team played the opening game in the Victory Tour presented by Nike in the stadium on April 24, 1997, defeating France.
UNCG Soccer Stadium has also hosted numerous Big South, Southern Conference and NCAA tournament matches.
Day campers will enjoy a break from the summer sun in the Rosenthal Indoor Pool.
Built in 1923, Rosenthal Pool is located on the second floor of the Health and Human Performance (HHP) Building.
The pool has six lanes for lap swimming and a shallow end. Locker rooms are available for swimmers
